[announcement] Free web hosting for OS developers - 2005/04/25 06:33
Hello,
Starting from Monday, April 25th we have a free web hosting plan for websites having content related to operating system development.
The RULES are pretty easy:
- the site's content must be related to operating system development and/or adjacent IT areas
- off topic content is permitted inside a site that meets the previous rules, but must be ethical content (no porn, no illegal activities, no tips-and-tricks and how-to's for illegal practices etc)
- a single individual can have only a single hosting account. This doesn't mean you can host just a single site, but for administrative purposes is better
- breaking rules no. 1 and/or 2 and/or 3 will determine account suspendation or termination.
That's about the rules. I don't think there will be problems, but I'd like to see the script kiddies away from this educational free hosting program.
Q: What do I get?
A: The resources you need. Our current infrastructure can easily host a large numbers of sites on this topic (after all, several download pages, guest books and forums won't kill a server like a mp3 streamer for example).
Q: What do you get?
A: We'll become a well known community ... BLAH BLAH ... We just do it as we love osdev and we are willing to help osdevers and indeed for the prestige we will gain (why not after all).
Q: Are there forced ads, etc?
A: NO WAY. However, we do ask for back links, but under no circumstance force ads to ruin your layout. Decent back links are perfect for both sides.
Q: Do you provide free domains?
A: Nope. They are a bit expensive in this kind of sponsored plan. If you do have a domain, you can easily use it with us. just point it to our DNS and you're on-air. If you don't have one, we will provide you with something like your-osdev-site.osdcom.info
Q: How do I get my hosting account?
A: Simply post your request in this forum. Please state the following:
- the needed resources (web space / estimated monthly bandwidth / email addresses)
- the topic of the website
- if the website already exists, post a link to it
- everything else you want to tell us about it
Your request will be processed shortly, and we will get back to you as soon as possible with the hosting details.
