Linux or NOT! - 2006/05/02 04:03 I am doing a project on OS. Since I am new to this topic, I have few questions here. Now, the project is to develop a OS editor. I was told to work on Linux and I have to download this wxWidget on my Notebook(wxWidget provides a GUI tool). I have no idea how I could compile and use it. and I wonder if I can download some compiler for windows so that I can use windows to develop this project.

Re:Linux or NOT! - 2006/05/02 10:00 Hello Gylapo,
from what I can tell it should be possible to download a precompiled windows version of wxWidgets from the website (download -> 2.6.3 stable -> Windows). It can be use it with either VC++ or the windows gcc port mingw. If you have however been told to work with Linux I actually doubt whether whoever gave you this assignment will be all that happy to see you doing it with windows anyway..

Re:Linux or NOT! - 2006/05/09 07:56 Linux isn't too hard once you get used to doing things in a slightly different way.
You may well find that wxwidgets is already available as a pre-compiled binary for your platform.

What distribution of linux are you using? (so I can tell you how to find a precompiled wxwidgets for your distribution).

Alternativly if you compile from source read the readme file and quite often the compile procedure is a matter of making sure any dependancies are met and then typing in a terminal once in the source directory:
make all
make install

or something similar.

Hope that helps,

Daniel
